"I do pray every day." But it doesn't necessarily help.
2x11-2x13
Trivial Negative
Having his faith challenged. But first, there's the bit with Ron and the shapeshifters. Dean has more of a record than before. This comes after the house with the evil doll. And then there's the episode about faith.
Believe that someone can make the right choice
5x5-5x7
Trivial Neutral
The stupid Paris Hilton episode. Sam's "hero" is Ghandi, even if that doesn't make sense within the context of the season. Apparently he is secretly a pacifist?? (No.) And then there's the Jesse episode. "I want to believe that someone can make the right choices." And then Dean doesn't think Sam can help him with playing poker. Treats him like a kid.
Plans for you, Sammy
1x22-2x1
Significant Negative
John is rescued and then possessed! Sam learns that the yellow eyed demon has plans for him, and then they get into a car accident. Dean is on the verge of death, and Sam is trying to get his dad to bring him back. And then John suddenly dies and Dean is suddenly better.
Mourning Period
1x2-1x3
Significant Neutral
Begins with looking for Dad with the Wendigo case. Eventually discussing that John might have wanted them to take over. Dean's dedication to doing what John wants him to do. Sam needing to find Jessica's killer. "It's the only thing I can think about." And then the Dead in the Water episode, where Sam is largely passive, but Dean shows he has a connection to kids.
